1916 Commemorations

As part of Ireland’s Centenary Programme to commemorate the 1916 Rising, Óglaigh na hÉireann will be delivering an Irish Flag and copy of the Proclamation to every school in the country. The presentation of the flag to our school was held on Tuesday 10th November.
The school had a guard of honour for the Defence Forces as the came into the school with the flag. In a lovely ceremony two of Óglaigh na hÉireann presented the school with the Irish Flag and a copy of the Proclamation. Keisha Ní Cochláín and Molly Nic Giolla Riabhaigh received the flag and the Proclamation on behalf of the school. The Óglaigh explained to the pupils how to care for the flag and read The Proclamation with the help of Maitiú Harborne from Rang a 6.
The hall was decorated beautifully by the two third classes and we finished the ceremony by singing the national anthem “Amhráin na bhFiann”.We will have another celebration on March 15th on Proclamation Day when the school will raise the Flag and hang The Proclamation.
